OSE 2018 General Assembly: a Focus on Youth Engagement

The OSE Annual General Assembly Meeting was held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Georges and Lili Garel Center, headquarters of the OSE.

 This year’s General Assembly enabled OSE to highlight the commitment of the youth, through the civic service in France and Israel, and also the volunteering activities led by J’OSE young adult group members with the children and families in need supported by the OSE.

Yannick Blanc President of the National Civic Service Agency, presented the stakes of youth engagement, which is expressed today mainly through civic service and volunteering, because, as he states it: “the motivation of young people is already strong and needs to be even more encouraged.” As an illustration, the OSE civic service program in Israel was presented by Secretary General, Esther Rozenkier.

Another focus that illustrates the desire for youth engagement: J’OSE activities besides and inside OSE services.

The 2017 moral report by President Jean-François Guthmann and Director General of OSE Patricia Sitruk presented the main achievements of the year, which were numerous and enriching, with a focus on the events that marked the year in each of the OSE fields of work.

Monday, May 27: OSE Alumni Association received Serge Klarsfeld

At a weekly meeting of the Association of OSE Alumni and Sympathizers, Serge Klarsfeld was invited to schmooze with its numerous members.

Maurice Michower, Honorary President of the Alumni group and Jean-Bertrand Schalfen, Vice President, were present alongside many friends and Alumni of OSE.

Patricia Sitruk, Director General of the OSE, wished Serge Klarsfeld a warm welcome to the Georges and Lili Garel Center, which hosts the weekly activities of the Association of OSE Alumni and Sympathizers, chaired by Claude Rosenthal, and is also home to the headquarters of the OSE.

Serge Klarsfeld first wished to remind the assembly that he, himself, is a former child hidden by the OSE, at the Château du Masgelier which he recalled. He presented his exemplary fight for memory, and the colossal lifetime work done with his wife Beate. He willingly engaged in a warm and sometimes intimate exchange with the audience, most of them being former hidden children who share a common story and destiny.

The civic service program honored by the France-Israel Cross Season

On June 7, in Tel Aviv, the France-Israel Cross Season scheduled the French-Israeli Forum for Volunteerism co-organized by the IVA and OSE.

Last June opened the Crossed Season France-Israel, which takes place simultaneously in the two countries between June and November 2018. It focuses on innovation, creation and youth, with the ambition to show the vitality of the bilateral relationship in the cultural and scientific fields, to mark a new stage in economic relations and to renew the way the French look at Israel and the Israelis think of France. The French civic service program in Israel developed since 2015 by the OSE and its partners, was in the spotlight of the first week of the Cross-Season.

The Forum on youth volunteering though civic service, proposed and jointly sponsored by the OSE and its Israeli partner IVA (Israeli Volunteer Association) has been labeled by the Cross-Season Committee as part of the official programming and benefited from joint financial support from the French Institute in Israel and the Israeli Embassy in France. This forum was held on Thursday, June 7 in Tel Aviv in the presence of representatives of the Israeli and French diplomacy, and all partners of the civic service in Israel, foremost amongst them the French Civic Service Agency. Many volunteers also came to share their life changing experience.

The speakers and participants analyzed the role played by youth and civil society in social action and bilateral Franco-Israeli relations, and the social impact in the fight against prejudice that this program promotes. They also brought up various ways to enhance the deployment of the civic service program in new sectors of activity beside social work, health and education, such as sports or the protection of the environment. Quality speakers fully committed to the implementation and success of the program, as well as many young volunteers took part in panel discussions led by diplomats and civil society specialists.

The testimonies of volunteers already suggest an impact, beyond their direct action with the beneficiaries of the medico-social structures in Israel, upon their return to France where they will be able to tell and share this experience of discovering the complex and diverse society they have found in Israel.

At OSE, we strongly believe the we are building renewed hope for the youth and the future of the French way of Living Together. That’s why all the partners are proud that Israel became so quickly the second destination of the French civic service abroad.

One day earlier, on June 6, the OSE was attending a meeting of international volunteer actors in Israel in Jerusalem at the invitation of the Israeli Ministry of Social Affairs, also a partner of the OSE as part of the civic service program in Israel. During this week, visits to social and medico-social structures partnering with the OSE, hosting volunteers in civic service or likely to host in the future, were organized with the IVA and the Ministry of Social Affairs. The OSE also went to meet the volunteers currently on mission, a milestone moment in the follow-up of these volunteers throughout the year.

 

Bon anniversaire à Georges Loinger pour son 108e anniversaire !

Georges Loinger, figure emblématique de l’OSE, fête aujourd’hui ses 108 ans, entouré de ses proches et amis.

Ce 29 août, les amis et la famille se sont réunis au domicile de Georges Loinger pour une cérémonie d’anniversaire chaleureuse. Jean-François Guthmann, Président de l’OSE et Patricia Sitruk, Directrice, étaient présents aux côtés de cette figure emblématique de l’association.

À partir de la fin de l’année 1942, Georges Loinger a assuré au sein de l’OSE le passage de plusieurs centaines d’enfants juifs en Suisse. Depuis, son lien avec l’OSE est indéfectible et sa fidélité nous honore.

Au cours de sa carrière, cet ancien résistant a reçu de nombreuses distinctions, parmi lesquelles celles de Commandeur dans l’ordre des Palmes Académiques, commandeur de la Légion d’Honneur à titre militaire, Médaille de la Résistance, Croix de guerre avec palmes et Médaille d’Or du ministère de l’Éducation nationale, de la Jeunesse et des Sports.

Service civique : et déjà la 9ème promotion part pour Israël.

Ils s’appellent Alix, Yaël,  Élodie,  Pauline,  Céline,  Fanny,  Anne-Coralie,  Kylan, Marion, Lindsey, Pierre, Léa, Camille et ils ont entre 20 et 24 ans.

Venus  des quatre  coins de France, de formations aussi différentes que le droit pénal, l’aérospatial ou la petite enfance, tous ces volontaires ont été  animés d’un commun  enthousiasme le 28 août, jour du départ en Israël pour y effectuer leurs missions de service civique. Le début d’une aventure humaine faite d’engagement, d’immersion dans une culture différente, et de soutien à ceux qui en ont besoin…

Pour la majorité localisées dans la région de Tel Aviv mais aussi dans le nord d’Israël à Bustan Hagalil, leurs missions réfèrent au secteur de l’Enfance et à celui du Handicap.

Pour autant, pas question de partir sans préparer ce voyage : l’OSE – opérateur et coordonnateur agréé du Service Civique depuis 2015 – qui s’investit pleinement dans le programme gouvernemental, s’est appliquée cette fois encore à préparer et organiser leur séjour par un programme spécialement orchestré par Emmanuel Darmon, Chargé de l’Action Internationale. Ainsi, depuis jeudi 23 août, les volontaires ont suivi :

  • une journée de formation aux premiers secours PSC1 (Prévention et Service Civique de niveau 1) ;
  • une préparation d’avant départ animée par Gingko – Volunteers in action sur les thèmes de l’engagement citoyen et de la vie à l’étranger.

Ils sont également rencontré et échangé avec un ancien volontaire tout juste revenu de mission : une chance pour ces jeunes en quête de bons conseils. L’occasion également pour la Secrétaire Générale, Esther Rozenkier, de  présenter aux volontaires l’association OSE et les raisons de son investissement dans le programme du service civique, suivi d’un rappel des droits et devoirs des volontaires alors qu’ils sont missionnés par la France, qui plus est, à l’étranger.

 



 

Et pour les remercier de leur enthousiasme et les encourager, l’Ambassadrice d’Israël en France, SE Aliza Bin-Nun, les a invités hier, à la veille du grand départ, pour un premier contact avec la société israélienne à base de houmous et de convivialité.

Le préfet Yannick Blanc, Président de l’Agence du Service civique, qui connaît bien ce programme vers Israël, et qui était l’invité d’honneur de l’OSE à sa dernière assemblée générale, était également venu à la rencontre des volontaires leur souhaiter bon voyage et leur rappeler le rôle qui est désormais le leur en matière de « diplomatie de la société civile ».

Dès ce soir, les partenaires de l’OSE en Israël, IVA et le Ministère des Affaires sociales, les attendent pour une préparation opérationnelle avant de rejoindre leurs lieux de mission.

Israël est depuis 2017 la seconde destination du service civique à l’étranger. Le service civique était à l’honneur dès les premiers jours de la Saison Croisée France Israël avec le Forum « Que la Jeunesse s’engage » organisé conjointement par IVA et l’OSE en Israël le 7 juin 2018.

Un voyage dans l’histoire pour deux jeunes de l’OSE !

Deux jeunes accueillis par l’OSE reviennent d’un voyage exceptionnel sur les Plages du Débarquement en Normandie, un court séjour organisé par l’OSE en partenariat avec un service pour les personnes âgées du CASIP.

 

Au cours de ce séjour intergénérationnel, ils ont ainsi découvert la plage d’Omaha Beach, le cimetière américain de Colleville-sur-Mer, la « Pointe du Hoc », mais ils ont également assisté à une projection panoramique de documentaires historiques. Sans oublier pour autant les moments privilégiés de partage autour d’un bon repas ou de balades au bord de la mer.

 

Un séjour enrichissant, plein de rencontres et de découvertes, au cours duquel ces jeunes ont pu nouer de précieux liens avec les seniors.

Journaliste et réalisateur, défenseur acharné de la cause d’Israël, Claude Lanzmann est mort le jeudi 5 juillet, à l’âge de 92 ans

L’OSE souhaite rendre hommage à Claude Lanzmann, dont la vie a balayé le 20e siècle par un engagement sans failles contre l’injustice, la peine de mort et l’oubli. A l’âge de 17 ans déjà, en 1943, il dirigeait la résistance du lycée Blaise Pascal de Clermont-Ferrand, en diffusant des tracts et en réceptionnant des valises d’armes. Compagnon de route de Sartre, directeur de la revue Les temps modernes, son combat s’incarne dans sa vie de journaliste. En avril 1985, au terme de 12 ans de travail, il présente Shoah, un documentaire monumental sur la destruction des Juifs d’Europe, d’une durée de 9 heures. Pour lui qui ne connaissait pas l’hébreu, le mot « shoah » était un signifiant sans signifié, un mot impénétrable. Ce monument est notre héritage.
